According to Wikipedia, Machine Learning is the subfield of computer science that “gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed” (Arthur Samuel, 1959). So, in my point of view Machine learning is a program that enable computer to learn just like humans do. It process involve learning based on the data the computer obtained , and make predictions on the next data that would be received by the computer. Machine learning can also make decisions and predictions based on the data they have.

In my opinion, Machine Learning is useful if you are working with a large amount of data that cant be handled by human. But despite being a program , it can make precise decisions and reliable predictions because the program is continually learn.

By using the Machine Learning , i’d like to create a program that can replace the immigration people in the airport. So, the program will check the validity of the passports , ID card and other documents. And because Machine Learning have the ability to learn, it can provide reliable decisions when determining whether the passenger documents is valid or not because of the fact that the people that would like to do something illegal , always finds a way and improve their approach in doing so. But with the Machine Learning , the program is also improving as time pass.

School of Computer Science, Bina Nusantara University

HTTP ( Himti Togetherness and Top Performance ) are the event that being hosted by Himti ( Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Informatika ) this event are held in the BPPT II Building in Thamrin, Central Jakarta. we have to attend this event because its like the welcoming ceremony for the new School of computer science Binusians.

In HTTP there’s many interesting show, performance like band , drama, DJ performance , Guest Star and many others. there’s benefit by attending the HTTP event.We can get T-shirts, Himti Kit, Himti exclusive PIN and E certificate.

The event starts from 09.00 am until 06.00 pm, there’s a performance from a senior and there are welcoming speech from the lecturer from the School of Computer Science and from the President of the Himti Kemanggisan and the President of the Himti Alam Sutera. and then there’s the drama about the visualization of Himti it was very funny. and there’s the performance from the Guest Star that’s Rianti Duke, they do some covers and it sounds really good. and the best part from this event is the DJ performance it was very exciting.

In my opinion, HTTP is my favourite part of the FEP.

Academic Orientation is the part when the Binusian are introduced to the basic of their subject in their majors and how they will taught us so that we can adapt to Binus University learning system. the Academic orientation occur for about 2 weeks, and in the last day of the academic orientation we are given a test based on what we already learn in the past 2 weeks.

Im majoring in Computer Science at the Binus University and there’s 4 courses in the Academic Orientation, there’s:

1. Computer Science

In this subject, we’re taught the introduction of algorithm, the basics in programming, Presentation, mind mapping, reading, writing skills and the introduction of information technology. The introduction of algorithm and the basics of programming are taught by Ms. Eileen Heriyanni and while the Presentation, Mind mapping, Reading, Writing skills and the introduction of information technology are taught by Mr. Dr. Widodo Budiharto.

2. Academic Advisory

In this course of Academic orientation, we met our college instructor and get to know how to contact our college instructor

3. Curriculum

In this course of Academic orientation, we are explained how the scoring system , the grade, and the path that we can choose later whethers its the Study abroad path, the Internship path,etc.

4. Support Center for Your Success

In this course of Academic orientation, we are told about the facility in Binus University that will help us until we graduate from Binus University like the Library and Knowledge Center , Student Advisory Center, International Office, etc.

Organizational Skill is one of the mandatory soft skills in Binus University.in Binus University we’re demanded to have soft skills, so after we graduate we’ll have good personality and able to work as a team.

Organizational Skill is the ability to use our time, energy, etc. in an effective way so that we can achieve something that we want to achieve. And organizational skill is crucial for us to be succesful in any proffesion (Source: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/organizational-skills ).

In Binus University, there are 6 key soft skills and that is:

1. Self Management
2. Problem Solving & Decision Making
3. Team Work
4. Communication
5. Planning & Organizing
6. Initiative & Enterprise

These 6 soft skills is the key for us to be useful and succesful inside the organization.

Maybe most of you wonder what is FEP, what is general orientation. in binus there’s an activity called FEP. FEP stands for Freshmen Enrichment Program and FEP divided into 3 parts, there’s General Orientation, Academic Orientation and Campus Life orientation.

First of all , lets talk about General Orientation. General Orientation is the part where all binusian start to learn all about Binus University. the history, the system in binus university, etc.Because i was inside the last batch of the FEP that is batch FBN , i only went through General Orientation for just two days. in the first day i was told to go to the auditorium room but they said the FEP moved to the room 800 at the 8th floor. when i arrived there the Buddy Coordinator ( BC ) guided us to enter the room while collecting our binusian card.Then on that room we are told about many things in the Binus University from the system in Binus University, the history of Binus University and much more. and then at afternoon we were guided to attend the kerohanian and the Binus Maya class. for the moslem we went to the musholla and do friday prayer, and then we’re told by the BC to have our lunch and went straightly to attend the Binus Maya class. in that class we’re taught by the BC how to use Binus Maya, and they told us that it’ll become the part of our life for the next 4 years. Binus Maya is a site where we Binusian can check our class schedule , absence, financial status and much more.After that we went back to room 800 where we attend the Bunga rampai its like Binus University UKM showcase.In binus there’s a lot of UKM, there’s BNCC , BNEC, CSC, taekwondo, and much more.Then they told us to walk around the 8th floor to see all of those UKM and to register if we are interested in one or more of those UKM.

On the second day of the General Orientation i wasn’t able to come because i have to attend the Pre University english class at the same day.
